Merchants of Thirst

Surrender to the flor

A THIRST FOR the exceptional

Merchants of Thirst is an importer and distributor in pursuit of the extraordinary.

We look for wines that tell the story of a place and of the people who nurtured the grapes from the ground to the glass. These are expressive wines with soul, character, and something new to say. They may not fit neatly into a category, but could become one of their own.

Over the years, this journey has found us in frozen vineyards, dank cellars, and dark caves. Late nights in French farmhouses have led to rough mornings on Spanish beaches. Along the way, we’ve built relationships with growers and winemakers who care deeply about what they do and make wines that are unmistakably their own.

What we bring to the table are wines we love, made by people we respect, with stories worth knowing.

And we hope these wines make you just a little thirstier for what comes next.

We represent the wines we love.

made by our friends, at home and abroad.

Merchants of thirst

Based in San Francisco, Merchants of Thirst is a wine and spirits importer and distributor working with independent producers from California and around the world.

Our choices are guided by a pretty simple philosophy. We look for clean, real wines with a sense of place, made responsibly by people who care deeply about what they’re doing.

We value thoughtful farming, transparency in the cellar, balance, freshness, and wines that feel like themselves. We’re not interested in dogma, and we don’t believe there’s only one right way to make wine. Some of the producers we work with are traditional, some are experimental, and many fall somewhere in between.

What matters is intention. The farming should make sense. The winemaking should serve the wine, not obscure it. And when the bottle is open, it should be delicious.

That philosophy has shaped the portfolio from the beginning and still guides every wine we bring in.

Because for us, wine has never just been about what’s in the bottle. It’s about the people around the table, the stories that get told, the places you remember, and having a reason to gather in the first place.
