Thirst Alert! Beaujolais & Rheinhessen!
The weather is cooling, days are getting shorter, and the fireplace beckons.
Chunky sweaters and snazzy coats are winding back into our sartorial rotation.
Squash and corn, once decadent and delicious, are being reborn, serving new looks as dried decor.
So, what does all this mean for you, me, and everyone we know?
It’s GLOU GLOU season, baby! And we’ve got you covered.
Here’s what’s fresh:
Château Cambon
Beaujolais, France
Château Cambon began as a project of three friends: the late Marcel Lapierre, Marie Lapierre and Jean-Claude Chanudet. The trio discovered a gem of a property just outside the edges of Morgon and Brouilly and realized that, despite being designated outside the grand cru status, it held prestige beyond title.
In a spirit of continuity, Alexandre Iwasuila joined the estate in 2022, bringing new energy while continuing their approach. Tasked with gradually taking over management, Alexandre perpetuates Cambon’s philosophy by cultivating the vines and making wine with a deep respect for the environment, limiting interventions to allow the wine to best reflect its origin.
db Schmitt
Rheinhessen, Germany
Bianka and Daniel Schmitt work with some of the finest winegrowing sites in the Rheinhessen. Blaufrankisch and Furmint from Bianka’s homeland of Hungary are grown alongside local noble varieties of Riesling and Spatburgunder. All four varieties have extraordinary potential to showcase the finer aspects of this terroir and its ability to produce grand wines.
Certified organic since 2007 and Demeter Biodynamic since 2012, they have learned over the years that nature gives her best when trusted to find a natural balance, in both the vineyard and the cellar. Over a decade of consistent biodynamic cultivation has led them to trust fully in the vitality and expression of the vineyards. This individual character is nurtured by time, precision, and handcraftsmanship.
CHÂTEAU de
GRAND PRÉ
Beaujolais, France
Château de Grand Pré is a family estate located in the communes of Fleurie and Villié-Morgon. Louis and Renée Bertrand bought the domaine in 1972. Today, the winery is run by their grandson, Romain Zordan.
“Love for our land, search for the expression in our wines; these founding values of our philosophy leads us to work with respectful and sustainable methods in our vines and cellar.”
